"My life as a therapist has changed because osteopathy completely altered my way of thinking and treating."

Why did you choose osteopathy?

After my training as physiotherapist at the KU Leuven I started working at an orthopedic rehabilitation center in Beieren. I noticed that I was able to treat many people and reach the desired results, however there were also many people that did not, or not completely, responded to the treatment. Since my parents visited an osteopath regularly and achieved very good results, I decided to gain some information about osteopathy. I immediately was attracted to the philosophy and the way of thinking and I felt that osteopathy could completely change my way of treating people. So I decided to go for it. In my search for a good education, I ended up at the IAO. It’s the largest academy for osteopathy and at the time they taught courses in Regenstauf, which was right around the corner for me.

Why did you decide to teach at the IAO?
The interaction between teachers, assistants and students was always very well and I wanted to remain a part of that after I graduated. Due to my job in the rehabilitation center I already knew that exchanging knowledge and experience with colleagues, are great assets of working with a team. When I was asked, after the graduation ceremony, if I might be interested in becoming a teacher at the IAO, I didn’t hesitate. I started as an assistant, a rookie, in a team of experienced osteopaths. By teaching at different locations and with different colleagues, it’s easy to exchange knowledge and experience. After 10 years I still love every moment and I really enjoy passing through the information I collected throughout the years, to the students. The variety between working in my practice and teaching is a huge asset for me.

How did osteopathy change your life?
My life as a therapist has changed because osteopathy completely altered my way of thinking and treating. The way I “view a patient” has become very different and with this of course also the locations where I examine and treat my patients. It costed me blood, sweat and tears to master the osteopathic philosophy but it was definitely worth it. I can only advise it!
