47 European countries, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark (countries where the IAO® is active) have implemented the European Bologna Process. The main aim of this Bologna Process is to make all courses equivalent so that the different professions can be carried on in all European countries, regardless of the place of study. The International Academy of Osteopathy® works together with Buckinghamshire New University and the University of Applied Sciences. This means graduates obtain an official Bachelor and Master degrees that have a legal basis in an accreditation.
The curriculum of the IAO confirms fully with the WHO – Benchmarks for Training in Osteopathy.
ECTS stands for "European Credit Transfer System". Since the introduction of the bachelor-master structure in Europe, the study load has been expressed by the international ECTS system, making the value assignment of internationally acquired disciplines comparable. A full-time academic year corresponds to 60 ECTS credits. One credit equates to 25 to 30 study hours. A credit is presently also known by the old name of study point. The objectives of the ECTS system are:
Transparency and comparability of courses.
Recognition and appreciation of academic degrees and professional qualifications.
Improve student mobility.
To facilitate cooperation between courses and institutes in Europe.
