Dr. med Thomas Karsch will discuss growing pains during ICROM2

Dr. med. Thomas Karsch will also be present during ICROM2. He was born in 1968 and studied Orthodepics in Dresden (DE). He recently also obtained his Master of Science in osteopathy. He is currently working as a consultant and specialist in a practice for Orthopedics in Riesa (Germany). During ICROM2 he will give a lecture titled: Is it all just growing pains? Imaging based diagnoses of childhood leg and foot pain?”. Dr. med. Karsch wrote a summary of his lecture:

“Osteopathic treatment is routinely applied to newborn babies, children and adolescents. The musculoskeletal system of these patients is subject to a regular growth process until the end of adolescence. Those patients often complain leg and/or knee pain symptoms, especially in combination with growth processes or mechanical stress.

Which clinical symptoms in the hip, knee and foot regions are indicators for structural disorders of the musculoskeletal system? What are important differential diagnoses? Which symptoms should lead to further medical diagnostics? Which diagnostic methods are commonly used?

This paper is aimed to give an overview on these topics. The focus is set on diseases of the hip joint area (hip dysplasia, Coxitis fugax, Perthes’ disease, Epiphysiolysis capitis femoris), the knee joint area (Osgood-Schlatter’s Disease, Osteochondrosis dissecans, anterior knee pain) and the foot area (Morbus Köhler) as well as of important red flags for inflammatory and tumor diseases.”
